VTS enjoy travel has the pleasure to invite you to Sewell, a legendary mining camp placed in the middle of the “Cordillera de Los Andes” with more than 100 years of history. This beautiful place is located only 150 km south of Santiago. The purpose of the construction of this mining camp in such extreme conditions was to give shelter to miners and workers of the copper mine, “El Teniente”. Sewell was declared a world heritage site by UNESCO due to its important contribution to the copper history in Chile, its perfect construction and architecture and also its rich cultural value.

From Santiago:
08:15hrs. Cerro Colorado  Street 5240, in front of the Torre del Parque 1 Building (at Parque Arauco's back door).
08:30hrs. Plaza Baquedano, General Bustamante Street, Next to the Movistar Building.

From Rancagua:
10:15hrs. Jumbo Rancagua, on the Copper Road (carretera el cobre).

On the way to Sewell:

10:30 hrs. We continue our journey to Sewell through the Copper Road president Eduardo Frei Montalba, we stop at the Maitenes Check Point, you will be surrounded by the beautiful mountains every step of the way. The industrial part of Sewell is distinctively marked by its particular construction in descent; you will see how every part of the industrial area takes advantage of the Gravity law. You will also have a panoramic view of every main building at “Mineral el Teniente” such as the Concentrator, Industrial Train Station of Alto Colon and the Smelting of Caletones. 

12:00 hrs. We arrive at the Mining camp of Sewell. As soon as you get out of the bus, you will be able to appreciate a full view of the main buildings followed by a historical recount from the Guide about the foundation and purpose of the camp in general. You will learn not only history; you can admire the construction and stories hidden inside the inhabited houses. Some of the main buildings you will see in your visit are the miner's apartment, higher employees building, the main stair of Sewell, the staff house, the theatre, social vlubs, the bowling, and the church, You will also have a closer look to some of the main entrances of the mine, Cerro Negro and finally go over the museum of the great copper mining. 

15:00 hrs. We leave Sewell and move to Fuente Millán. 

16:30 hrs. Lunch time at Fuente Millán.

Arrival:

18:30 hrs. Arrival to Rancagua.

20:00 hrs. Arrival to Santiago.
